Coping with Covid-19

4 August 2020

Over the last few months, the COVID-19 pandemic has re-shaped our way of life in Singapore. Here at Nam Hong Welfare Service Society, we have had to quickly adapt to ensure the safety of our staff and patients, as well as continue to best serve our beneficiaries and the disadvantaged. These include imposing new measures at the clinic, restructuring our events and future plans, and developing new ways to cope with challenges we continue to face. Below is a summary of our COVID-19 response thus far.

Our new facility begins operation on 4th June 2020

29 July 2020

On 28th May 2020, we received a Temporary Operation Permit (TOP) for our newly built centre next to the existing one. This was in line with the end of the COVID-19 Circuit Breaker period, so we started to pack and relocated to new facility. We then suspended our operation from 1st June 2020 till 3rd June 2020, before beginning operation proper on the 4th June 2020 at the new facility. As we are still in Phase 1 of re-opening, we urge all to make an advance booking to avoid long waiting time and crowding. Please call our centre at 62579192 or 94866806 to book your slot. Please be informed that our upcoming days have been fully booked.

Oncology Treatment at Nam Hong

24 July 2020

Being diagnosed with cancer has major impacts on a patient’s life. While many patients seek treatment from Western Medicine and support from charitable organisations, at Nam Hong, our approach is to complement these treatments and support with our specialized TCM treatment services. Incorporating TCM treatment before, during and after surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy not only enhances survival rate, but improves the quality of life for patients. Before & after surgery: TCM aims to control growth of the tumor and boosts immunity to prevent recurrence and metastasis. During and after chemo: TCM reduces the toxicity of Chemo-drugs to vital organs, strengthens the effect of chemo treatment and promotes recovery. During Radiotherapy: TCM reduces the side-effects of radiations and promotes speedy recovery. For patients with mid to advanced stages and have lost the opportunity for curative treatment, TCM helps to reduce pain and anxiety. This translates to better quality of life and prolongs survival. While the impact on our beneficiaries is positive and very encouraging, the funding for such services is immense and long term. Medications for cancer treatments are especially high cost and remuneration for physicians with such specializations are also much higher. Donations have declined significantly during coronavirus pandemic, and will continue to be very challenging for our organisation as more beneficiaries will appeal for increasingly complex services and long-term in nature. As an organisation that does not receive $1-to-$1 fund matching or grants, every form of support for us is crucial to our sustainability. We would like to appeal for your compassionate support to enable us to strive forward to help the needy and disadvantaged in our society. To contribute to our cause, donate via
