Skin is the 8th detox organ. Skin performs many beneficial functions but it does undergo changes and damage. Ageing and illnesses take their toll, while wounds, burns and skin diseases, including cancer, can damage this organ. Causes can also be internal such as immunological abnormalities, environmental, food allergies and emotional elements such as stress. In some cases, the skin can show signs of an internal disease before the disease advances and becomes more serious.
According to Chinese Medicine principles, skin swellings are often due to Damp-Heat toxins, Stomach Heat, Heat in the Blood, Liver Heat, Qi Stagnation, Wind-Heat, Blood Deficiency and Yin Deficiency.
